Honey, I want a biscuit

This post was almost titled, "I made a biscuit, and I live with a pig". More on that later

Rob loves biscuits, asks for them daily, if not several times a day. He calls me Biscuit as a pet name, we use the word biscuit in place of bad words, you get the hint.... minor obsession in this house. So it was no surprise that after our recent girls trip to Poogans Porch in Charleston, SC that their Buttermilk Biscuit recipe had to be mine! They are perfection! And our lovely waiter gave us a copy on a beautiful recipe card.

I LOVE Poogan's Porch! How could you not! If you are in Charleston, do yourself a favor and treat yourself.

The "We Believe In" quote on their website...seriously perfect! One of the best southern quotes ever. Onto the biscuits...

A little biscuit history, my previous biscuit adventures have been disasters. Not even sure the ducks in our backyard would eat them. Today was a real victory!

Poogan's Porch Buttermilk Biscuits
Yields Six 2oz. Biscuits

1 Cup sifted self-rising flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 cup shortening
4 oz. buttermilk (room temp)

Mix flour, baking powder, and sugar thoroughly - cut in shortening until you make course crumbs - add buttermilk and mix. Put dough mixture on a floured surface for kneading. Pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness and use biscuit cutter. Put biscuits on lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 12 min. or until golden brown.

PS: Brush with melted butter the second they come out of the oven mmmm

Hubby approved!

Oh, the alternate title for the post today...... When I delivered the fresh from the oven biscuits to Rob his answer was "wow, babe, you did it! you actually made a biscuit! ok, you passed the test we can get married now" oh men, you gotta love 'em!

This is the flour we bought at the Piggly Wiggly (pronounced pig-a-lee wig-a-lee) and carted 500+ miles back home because they recommened this brand... Hey don't mess with perfection

...and my least favorite part, the clean up. ugh! enjoy the biscuits everyone!!!
